A whole cabinet of curiosities scattered across ivory — lobsters, an octopus or
two, a small winged horse, black-figure urns, shells, coral, little starbursts
and bows — with every edge bound in seafoam blue. Collar, placket, cuffs, belt,
hem. All of them.
Now the honest part, because there are two things worth saying out loud.
A long cream button-front closed with a fabric belt is, structurally, the exact
description of a dressing gown. What stops it being one is the tailoring — a real
pointed collar, a full run of buttons, tabs at the cuffs, that binding traced
round every edge — and one accessory. Keep the self-tie for the ease of it, or
swap it for a tan leather belt or a woven one for summer, and it stops reading
robe in a single move. Put on a shoe with some weight while you're at it.
Hemp underneath — breathable in real heat, and softer every time you wash it. On
an ivory this natural, slip something nude on underneath and stop thinking about
it.
