A cream column running from the neckline to the floor, front and back — and
framing it, great scrolling arabesques in turquoise, chartreuse and chocolate,
spilling over the shoulders and down the sleeves.
That column is doing quiet work. It's one long uninterrupted vertical with the
darker scrollwork sitting at the sides, which is the panelled arrangement that
sends the eye up and down rather than across you. And unlike most things cut this
loosely, this one arrives with its own answer: a fine tie belt to draw round your
natural waist and knot behind you — or leave hanging, and take the room instead.
What actually decides it is the bag and the shoe. A straw tote and a flat sandal
say holiday. A clutch, a wedge, one big gold earring, and it's dinner. Same
dress, entirely different evening.
And the sleeves go to the wrist — sun off your arms, something between you and
the restaurant air conditioning, linen breathing the whole time.
